HEARING AID MODELS & SIZES

Hearing loss is different for different people. Therefore it makes sense that there are many different models and styles of hearing devices available to suit. Which hearing aid best suits an individual depends on a number of factors, such as:

  • Severity of the hearing loss
  • Lifestyle factors
  • Dexterity, or someone ability to manage small batteries and programming functions
  • Financial resources
  • Aesthetic preferences

Behind the Ear (BTE)

The main section (case) of this hearing aid is hidden behind your ear and connected to a molded receiver that fits discreetly in the ear canal. Your hearing healthcare professional can help you determine whether you prefer a fully automatic aid that requires no manual adjustments or a hearing aid that offers full control. These hearing aids generally offer a volume control and/or push button that allow selection from multiple programs for specific performance situations.Suitable for: all types of hearing loss

Receiver-in-Canal (Receiver in the Ear)

RIC combines the advantages of the behind-the-ear and custom (in-the-ear) models. The microphone has been moved to the outer ear and is connected to the main body of the hearing aid by a thin transparent tube. The result is a virtually invisible hearing instrument that offers Open-fitting comfort and maximum wind noise suppression.Suitable for: mild or to moderately severe hearing loss

Custom in-the-ear models

Custom in-the-ear models are custom made to fit the contours of your ear canal.

  • Full shell
  • Half shell
  • Canal
  • Mini canal
  • Completely in the canal (CIC)
  • Deep canal (invisible)

Depending on the specific model chosen, it may be practically invisible in your ear. The size and shape of your ear canal along with your specific hearing loss determine which type of custom hearing aid is right for you.Suitable for: mild to moderately severe hearing loss.
